Pray for the United Methodist Church General Conference

What is General Conference? General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church which meets once every four years. General Conference celebrates the great ministry of the world-wide United Methodist Church.  General Conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. This year General Conference is in Portland Oregon from May 10-20th.   Please pray for the members of General Conference. Several major issues will bring decisions critical for the future of the United Methodist Church.  There will be open debate and sensational media coverage around the UMC teachings and church law on homosexual behavior, the UMC affirmation that all persons are of sacred worth and that the church shall be in ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, the understanding that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, the current prohibition against ordaining gay or lesbian persons as clergy, and the prohibition on celebrating same-gender unions or marriages.  Statements from the UMC Book of Discipline regarding marriage, sexual purity, homosexuality, and ministry.   Pray the General Conference holds fast to Biblical truth, graceful debate, and commitment to obedience to our church law.
